The redesign of Salisbury Garden in Tsim Sha Tsui is in tandem with Victoria Dockside (Remodeling of New World Centre). Based on the design concept embracing simplicity, greening and orientation to public, the revamp turned the originally underutilised and enclosed garden to a welcoming public space as well as a new harbourfront destination with rich cultural and artistic ambience.
Reopened in early December 2017, the revamped Salisbury Garden is a place with vitality that stimulates social interaction and cultural exchange. The newly developed glass pavilion and oval shaped lawn provide space for the exhibition of artworks and various types of events such as markets and fairs, mini-concerts and other performances. The waterfront side is highlighted by an artistic trellis in a streamlined and latticed shape put up over a mini-amphitheatre. Wide seating steps were built around the mini-amphitheatre where visitors can sit and enjoy the panoramic view of Victoria Harbour.
Regarding the greening design, “Landscaped Green Walls” were used to hide the emergency exits, E&M equipment and ventilation facilities. This approach not only helps to visually unify the overall design of the Garden, but also streamlines the layout and configuration for better circulation.
RLP, the executive architect, collaborated with KFP on architectural design and JCFO on landscape design in this A&A project.
