Rumah Sore
Background
A married couple who spends most of their time working outside the city for months, wanted a secondary home or a retirement home to spend quality time with their six children during their time off from work or a place to live in retired life. Big family simply need more space, in 10 m x 20 m land area the architect needs to accommodate all activities while still considering the client and some of his extended family are elderly people.
Initial Idea
Indonesians are regarded as being friendly, values about family and social conduct are given a prominent position, especially for the Bugis tribe in south Sulawesi. Family gatherings and guests visiting the house are very often and even required it’s own space for these activities, both held regularly or suddenly, the culture of togetherness is always upheld. Based on this, the architect tries to maximize every space so that all occupants of the house can still interact with each other even from different floor, also to enlarge natural light source and indoor air quality is the main reference in this design, since it has been proven to increase health and comfort levels for building occupants.
Building mass
Divided into 2 building masses consisting of 3 floors each with a split level difference between the two which aims to efficient access by stairs between floors with a very low slope considering that it is easily accessible by the elderly up to the rooftop level where you can enjoy the sea view.
The stairs position is between the masses of the building side by side with the swimming pool which makes the airflow regulates interior temperatures, prevents mold, and also removes impurities in all rooms more easily. It is in this void area in the middle of the building that interaction can occur between occupants both from building masses in each room, from the 1st floor to the 2nd floor, from the 2nd floor to the 3rd floor, from the pool area to the dining room, from the stairs to the pool area, and from the living room. On the right and left sides of the house there are open spaces so that the mass of the building does not fill the land boundary and also as the access to ventilation and natural lighting, arranging the shape of the building mass so that all spaces have openings to the outside area.
Spatial analysis
Ibiza Mediteranian is a theme that is stretched as an implementation of a tropical atmosphere in the house with the lifestyle of homeowners who want to give the impression of luxury in simplicity. There are 2 accesses to enter the house, first with main access through the foyer and secondary access through the garage area which is connected directly to the kitchen area. From the foyer you can connect to the guest rooms, go down to the swimming pool and dining room area, go up to the movie room area and
access to the bedrooms. The master bedroom and prayer room located on the 2nd level in the mass of the first building and the other rooms are on the 3rd level in the mass of the first building and on the 2nd level in the mass of the second building. The master bedroom and the prayer room are spaces that must be passed by the children when going to their respective bedrooms or passed by the movie room so there are chances of interaction happening with the parents and to pray together. This is also a spatial strategy to help develop the character and personality of children, nearby the movie room / family gathering room area, there is a service area in the form of a laundry room for washing and ironing while parents are watching while accompanying and interacting with children who are doing household chores. This is attempted so that children can do household chores independently without the help of household assistants so that in this house there is no room for household assistants.
Construction and materials
Located approximately 160 km from downtown Makassar, it was a challenge for the architect’s team in assisting the construction process, especially in this project not using service of a contractor instead a team of local builders who were chosen by the client and the architect team were entrusted as supervisors and advisors in providing construction materials. Of course there was very intense coordination between the team of builders and the team of architects in translating the design technically in the construction process.
The use of materials that are simple, easy to obtain and easy to apply is the main choice in this project. Finishing the walls with natural textures and colors, a combination of iron and wood and the presence of water elements in the mass of the building, is enough to strengthen the concept and design theme carried in this house. The selection of the material is also with the consideration that it is easy to maintain.
