The Womb Chair

The womb chair was created by a modern designer, Eero Saarinen, in the late 1940s. The womb chair was made at the request of Knoll’s furniture company’s president, Florence Knoll whose own designs are as iconic. As the name suggests, this chair is designed to provide comfort in various sitting positions. The chair was originally labelled “No. 70”, but thanks to its organic and comfortable shape, it became known as the “womb chair” to this day.

The shape is common for modern chairs and it is considered as a modification of the previous dining chair shapes. It is probably why Parson chair is widely adopted and remains popular to date.

Designed by Xavier Pauchard in 1934, Marais A Chair was initially designed for outdoor use. It was originally designed to fulfil a commission from SAS Hotel that requested a chair that provided both comfort and privacy. The construction process involving a moulded plywood technique is also applied by the Eames couple. This modern chair has become one of the most produced chairs in the world.

Bertoia Bar Stools are also common in modern minimalist kitchens. It has a unique and appealing shape as it uses a wire structure for the seat. This stylish chair first appeared in 1951 and was designed by Harry Bertoia. Its initial construction was similar to a common guest chair at that time.
