Six Tips to Design K-Drama Inspired Rooms

K-dramas or Korean dramas are hot topics these days, especially during this period when people have to stay home most of the time. Not a few people spend their time watching these dramas. But what many probably not realise is the drama’s setting. The house interiors are unique, characterised by the use of soft colours and cute decorative items. This can be a source of interior design inspiration and here are some tips to create K-drama inspired rooms at home. Let’s check them out!

Soft colours

Just like interior designs in general, the choice of colours is key to set up a K-drama inspired room. White and crème walls are typically chosen as the dominant base colours. Then, as accent or decoration, the most common ones are soft or pastel colours like pink, grey, peach, light blue etc.

The choice of curtain

Big windows are necessary for air circulation and sunlight in order to reduce the room’s humidity. To make the K-drama style more evident, replace the room’s curtain with a simple window blind. Blinds are practical as you can adjust its position to block glaring sunlight. An alternative to blind is vintage curtain that matches the overall pastel tone in the room.

An open-plan concept

Houses in South Korea are relatively small, so they are often conceptualised in a compact room design. One example is the use of open plan concept or rooms with no partitions. If areas need to be defined, carpet is often used to create an illusion of partition.

Multifunctional furniture

Small rooms in K-dramas are often furnished with multifunctional furniture. As it is practical and doesn’t take much space, this type of furniture is suitable for urban homes. By using multifunctional furniture like this, things can be kept minimal and clutter can be reduced.

Shelves as storage

Room design in K-dramas often uses open shelves for storage, for example to store a book collection or to display decorative items. The common material is wood or those with wood pattern that can be easily matched with any wall colours.

Unique decoration

Rooms in Korean dramas often have unique decorative items. Although there are many decorations displayed, the room never appears too full. The key is to choose decorations in similar colours to the overall theme and to arrange them properly. One of the decorative items that shouldn’t be missed is a grid wall to hang photos or small notes. To make it look more attractive, string lights can be added to introduce some sparkles at night.
