Topiq of all Education Spaces
LeFevre High worked with Chapman Herbert Architects to design a space which featured a number of innovative products, like Knauf AMF suspended Topiq Rafts, Heradesign panels and acoustic rated ceiling tiles. Sourced, supplied and conveniently delivered by ADX Depot to achieve the brief, the fit-out was completed by Hansen Yuncken with Commercial Fitouts Australia (CFA).
Products supplied for this project:
Knauf AMF suspended Topiq Rafts
Acoustic ceiling tiles
Knauf AMF TOPIQ® Sonic element ceiling rafts are an exciting product which is reasonably new to the Australian market and distributed by ADX Depot. The frameless and jointless ceiling raft is designed with full-coloured face and reverse laminate fleece. Each ceiling raft is delivered with tension springs to fix to the raft and suspend with cables, attaching with hooks, to the tension springs. The soft-fibre ceiling tile is light-weight and gives the appearance that it’s free floating. It is a simple yet effective system that can be implemented at any stage, during or after, the build.
Ashley Tremain from CFA confirms, “the TOPIQ rafts were simple to install and with the support of ADX Depot, we were able to present the product specifications to the builder ensuring they met all requirements.”
Considering their suspended design, TOPIQ® ceiling rafts were the ideal solution for this project to increase the acoustic rating within the space. This was because they didn’t affect the rest of the classroom’s functionality as they don’t obstruct the walls’ ability to open. From an interior design perspective, the geometric shapes bring an extra visual detail to the space working well in combination with the bright coloured Heradesign panels. Together they add interest to the classroom engaging students while providing acoustic balance.
Knauf AMF Heradesign panels are a made from wood wool, with natural fibres that are known for their ability to absorb sound as well as filter air within the space. Heradesign panels add subtle benefits to the space for the students, such as better acoustics to improve the learning environment. Another feature of Heradesign panels is that they are able to be painted to any colour. This is seen throughout each classroom space featuring some calming yet help students settle for the lessons. “The TOPIQ® ceiling rafts and Heradesign panels weren’t the only products that were selected to increase the overall acoustic rating of the space.” Daniel Wright from ADX Depot explains.
“The ceiling tiles used were specially ordered in because of their higher acoustic ratings. We supplied the data sheets to ensure the requirements were met. It was satisfying being able to arrange for the information to be supplied and when a decision was made to go ahead with these tiles, it was a fast turnaround time to order them in to allow CFA to complete their work on time.”
Leanne Hembrow, Business Manager at LeFevre High School, speaks about working with the architect, “Chapman Herbert Architects were great to work with, taking into consideration all of the objectives we wanted to achieve with this project. Robert communicated well and showed us options and how all of the elements work together to achieve our brief. We are very pleased with the end result the builders have achieved and believe our students will enjoy the space and find it a visually engaging and enjoyable space to learn in.” The workmanship completed by Hansen Yuncken with support of Commercial Fitouts Australia is of a high standard and as a result, the space is one that will be enjoyed by students and faculty for many more years to come.
