There are various home interior design styles to choose from. One of the most popular interior design styles these days is the Scandinavian with its minimalist yet prominent look. The style itself is suitable to be applied to small-sized houses or apartments due to its space-liberating effect, that is to make rooms feel more spacious. Let’s take a look at some characteristics of the Scandinavian interior design.
Dominated by Neutral Colours

In terms of colour scheme, the Scandinavian style is associated with neutrality such as white, grey, black and brown. An interior with the combination of these colours creates relaxing and comfortable ambience.
Generally, walls are painted white so that the furniture in the room can be more accentuated. Pastel colours are sometimes used in certain parts as the feature wall of the room.
Simple and Functional Furniture Arrangement

One characteristic of the Scandinavian interior design is to maximize the use of space to provide comfort. Furniture is arranged accordingly in order not to hinder the movement of the occupants so that the space can be used effectively and comfortably. Simple open cabinets and shelves can be good choices for storage—making the room look tidy and comfortable.

Instead of using carpet entirely, the floor of Scandinavian homes relies more on timber material, whether polished or whitewashed. This is meant to give warm and spacious feeling, as well as to reflect light nicely. Grey plastered floor and white ceramic tile can also be good choices to enhance such a Scandinavian interior look.
Minimal Window Decoration

To allow maximum natural lighting, the Scandinavian style tends to leave the window area bare as it is. Windows should also be decorated minimally, such as by hanging a thin neutral coloured curtain. If possible, you can surely set up more openings, so that the house can constantly get healthy fresh air and natural light.
