In this article, we showcase an office design transforming an ordinary office space into a modern and futuristic workspace, Nu Infinity uses the art of light and space planning to curate DJI’s office. Just like flying drones, the sky is their only limit.
So they came to Nu Infinity with a brief to transform their 1971 square feet studio office into a versatile hub serving simultaneously as a Drone Pilot Training Academy, a drone-servicing base and a course center for training pilots.
Located at the prestigious Kuala Lumpur-Bangsar locale, DJI selected The Aspire Tower as the dream space to nurture their aspirations and inspire their innovations.
Upon entering the unit on the first site visit, the most eye catching feature of the space was the column. Seeing potential, Nu Infinity transformed the areas surrounding the column into various functional spaces in the office design.
Taking advantage of the thickness of the column, it was camouflaged within a backdrop for a sleek entrance signage. This created a modern lobby decked in cool grey shades, becoming an entrance statement for the office. The right side of the column was extended with a hidden door entrance leading to a meeting room.
The lobby also features a large LED panel screen to showcase their Academy portfolio to visitors or as educational support for their Drone academy students. This creates an exciting first impression of futuristic innovation for the DJI office.
The designers decided to take advantage of the panoramic view of Klang Valley by strategically placing the important spaces near the windows. As for the eye-catching large columns, they were dressed up as functional storage and display cabinets.
A useful tip from Nu Infinity for efficient space planning is to divide spaces according to their functions. The pantry is considered a general guest space compared to the director’s room and meeting rooms which require more privacy.
Hence, the pantry was placed where the distribution box was, to allow easy access for service and maintenance without disrupting the more private zones of the office. The breakout point and pantry boasts a quirky cafe-like concept, making the space more casual and emphasizing a healthy work culture.
To bring light and the impression of spaciousness to the pantry that is far from natural lighting, glass dividers were built instead of dry walls and partitions. Using a white wall to divide the two spaces will increase renovation costs as both sides of the wall need to be dressed up with design features.
The glass dividers provide ample lighting and correlate each space seamlessly. The design intention was to make every angle of the office complement and correlate to each other.
The corridor leading to the director’s room is highlighted with a ceiling design, creating a futuristic approach. The feature ceiling also creates a staging effect, separating the general workspace from the pantry area and allowing comfortable distance between spaces.
The considerably high ceiling allows for ceiling light panels to be suspended from the concrete slabs, throwing even lighting on the general work studio.
Aiming to maximise the natural lighting permeating into every room for this office design, a discussion room was tucked discreetly at the corner with a full height glass divider. The glass divider allows light to spread throughout the meeting room and also acts as a whiteboard.
The room comes equipped with curtains that can be conveniently closed when privacy is required. This is a new modern office space designed to cater to a variety of different work environments and needs.
The drone has witnessed a significant transformation in the past decade, quickly becoming an essential tool across industries. As DJI joins the advent of progress, envisioning a limitless future at the pinnacle of technology, it is only fitting Nu Infinity curates an office design for them in similar innovative spirit.
