About JasSaleh Architect
JasSalehArchitect is a design-led practice that promotes environmental and sustainable design. We are based in a Bandar Puteri studio. The practice was formed by Ar. Jasmi Saleh in 1993 following accumulated design and practice experiences in London, Hull, Leeds and Kuala Lumpur. The current practice works with various associated professionals on delivering environmentally sustainable design projects in the UK and Malaysia. We take pride in designing solutions which address our clients' needs. In order to do so we develop a common vision and consensus within our client organisations. Our participatory process generates broad ownership in the project and effective control by the clients' leadership. We strive to break new ground with our clients. Philosophy ‘Be inventive not reactive’ is our motto. We aspire to question and to push boundaries, to stimulate and to reinterpret in order to establish a brief that is at ease within a broadly considered context. The resulting brief generates a diagrammatic framework, a fine blend of the rational and the abstract to come up with a design. The process is intense, rigorous and robust to inform each stage level of the design down to the last detail and produce a pure, coherent legible product. Architecture The process is almost like the sculpting of objects, appreciating voids, solids and light with concerns for users’ comfort and delight, proven with performance level that has been designed in. We endeavour to achieve the final objective that is a crafted modernism which is unique, special and pleasing. Professionalism JasSalehArchitect have a professional and business-like attitude towards management of projects and the provision of architectural services. The office keeps abreast of current thinking on sustainability, the environment, procurement, legislation and fiscal matters. A program of continuing professional development (CPD) is in place, and the whole office is regularly involved in extra-curricular activities, visiting exhibitions, lectures, trade shows and cultural events. Ar. Jas Saleh is chartered architect and is a member of the Registration Board (UK), Lembaga Arkitek Malaysia (LAM) and a registered BRE Environmental Assessment and Management Assessor in UK (BREEAM). The studio has full IT facilities including CAD, desktop publishing, 3D visualisation, Sustainability Assessments and Modelling. The aim is to facilitate a project with efficiency and effectiveness. Why we are special We provide green solutions to our Clients’ building and spatial needs. We work hard to provide excellent: • Architectural Feasibility Studies • Sustainable Environmental Design • Sustainability and Environmental Assessments • CAD Drawing & Modelling • Construction Management • Building Energy and Thermal Modelling Architectural Feasibility Studies JasSalehArchitect can conduct a professional feasibility study to determine a design solution can be achieved effectively. The results determine whether the solution should be implemented. This activity takes place during the project initiation phase and is made before significant expenses are engaged. Its objectives are; To •To perform a preliminary study to determine a project's viability. •To analyse an existing system to see if it is worth upgrading. •To determine the time-scale to build the new project, when it can be built, whether it interferes with operations, type and amount of resources required, dependencies, etc. •To establish the cost-effectiveness of the proposed system. •To determine if the system conflicts with legal requirements. Sustainable Environmental Design JasSalehArchitect is actively promoting learning and raising awareness in sustainable environmental design. The practice advocates and pursues research-led design. Innovation underpinned by rigorous research and feedback on performance in use has been a long-standing feature of our work. Ar. Jas Saleh has a lifelong interest in low-energy and environmentally appropriate design. this is demonstrated in his interest in his on-going doctoral thesis. Our research work has been wide-ranging and includes a number of Government funded research projects looking at broad implications of environmental issues. Sustainability and Environmental Assessments We voluntarily adopted the BRE Environmental Assessment and Management, UK) to ensure delivery of environmental, higher comfort and health benefits based on the following environmental impacts assessments for all our projects; ✓ Energy ✓ Site Management ✓ Health and well-being ✓ Transport ✓ Water ✓ Materials ✓ Waste ✓ Land Use ✓ Pollution ✓ Ecology Our in-house team collectively endeavour to achieve the ‘very good’ and above of the BREEAM environmental rating in all our projects. We also work with various ‘green building design facilitators’ to deliver Gold and Platinum rating of the Green Building Index (GBI) and other similar environmental ratings. We believe we have a holistic understanding and approach to the environmental forces that shape our buildings. Our respect and understanding allowing the climate to impact on our design, in return our design has minimum impact on the climate. Our architecture also needs to be robust enough in vision and concept to accommodate future change. CAD and 3D Modelling Our firm has used Computer Aided Drafting (CAD) for more than 15 years, and has developed effective approaches to managing this technology. CAD software allows rigorous and fast testing of design alternatives assuring that the final design is the best alternative. CAD drawings enable specialists to test building systems such as acoustics, lighting, and sound systems prior to final design and construction. 3D modelling capability is useful for clients to understand their building concept and for presentation in the municipal approval process. Construction Management We offer our clients to construct our design at a lower cost by Cost Plus Construction & Management basis. Not only we offer the best hands-on design but also on-site advices, these allows the opportunity for the building design to evolve to suit our client needs without the risk of high cost of Variation Orders (VO). Our experiences show that this construction procurement suits residential and high-end projects. Building Energy and Thermal Modelling Ar. Jas Saleh’s researches and interests in high-performance building has provided the practice with expertise and in-depth understanding and delivery of sustainable and high-performance building environmental design. His on-going doctoral research in ‘low-energy buildings by design’ at Sheffield University UK has been published in several international science journals and conferences. Interior Design Ar. Jas Saleh’s experiences on several interior concept design work for residential and corporate work, and his tutoring ID at LimKokWing in the past will be put in good use for innovative ID concepts that the practice is working on.
