There is a variety of waterproofing materials in the market. Choosing the right type of waterproofing is crucial because not all waterproofing elements are fit for all purposes. Your house or property may face major problems if you choose or use a wrong form of waterproofing.
Cementitious Waterproofing
Cementitious coating, which is in powder or dry mix form, consists of sand, organic and inorganic chemicals, and polymer. All these elements when combined together will create a hydration reaction, that leads to the generation of a flexible or semi rigid waterproof seal. Cementitious coating is often used by numerous experts due to its easy application. A subsequent protecting layer, such as screeding or tile, on top of the cementitious coating, is required.
‘BuildenFlex-1K One-Component Flexible Cementitious Waterproofing Membrane’ is one of example for easy to use flexible cementitious waterproofing membrane. You just need to add tap water before applying. The ingredients we use in the mix create a durable and flexible coating which able to provide gap bridging.
‘Builden BS201 2-Part Polymer Modified Flexible Cementitious Waterproofing Membrane’ is a two-part polymer modified cementitious waterproofing mortar slurry comprising a liquid polymer and a cement-based dry mix incorporating special admixtures. It is applied to concrete and mortar to prevent water infiltration and also enable gap bridging. Suitable for balcony and toilet where water ponding is expected.
On the other hand, ‘Builden BS203 2-Part Polymer Modified Semi-Flexible Cementitious Waterproofing Membrane’ is a more economical two-part polymer modified cementitious waterproofing mortar slurry comprising a liquid polymer and a cement-based mix incorporating special admixtures. It is used for areas which do not require the membrane flexibility or gap bridging capability of Builden BS201.
Cementitious waterproofing is often chosen for various purposes and applications. Professionals utilize this type of waterproofing to create a waterproof seal over concrete structures, such as foundations, walkways, sidewalks and walls. You can use this form of waterproofing for a wide range of concrete applications. With a subsequent protecting layer of screeding or tile, Builden BS203 will last for many years.
Torch-On Bituminous Waterproofing
Bituminous waterproofing works great for various applications. This type of waterproofing is suitable for roof top. ‘Builden’s BT Series of Torch-On Bituminous Waterproofing Membranes’ is manufactured from a rich mixture of bitumen and selected APP (Atactic Poly Propylene) polymers blended together to achieve excellent heat & UV resistance and waterproofing properties. It has superior tear-resistant qualities as the polymerised bitumen is coated onto a dimensionally stable reinforcement core of non-woven spun-bond polyester as rot-proof fabric giving it a long lifespan.
Crystallization Waterproofing
Crystallization waterproofing is an effective and economic way to add waterproofing to homes. It uses technology that involves the formation of crystals to help reach watertight concrete structures. Crystallization Waterproofing is also easy to apply, and it can work remarkably well.
‘Builden Crystal Seal CRS10’ is a chloride free, unique cementitious waterproofing solution supplied in the form of grey powder. It is a ready-mix, in-depth waterproofing cementitious which can be utilized in a variety of ways (check TDS for full details). Its unique crystallization properties impart both self-healing and waterproofing properties for any concrete throughout its lifetime.
‘Builden Crystal Seal CWA8’ on the other hand is a unique chemical admixture, also supplied in the form of grey powder. It is also chloride free. It is added to concrete and mortars during batching, hence reducing time and labor compared to conventional membrane waterproofing methods. Its unique crystallization properties impart both self-healing and waterproofing properties for any concrete through its lifetime.
There are more types of waterproofing nowadays. But as mentioned in our opening paragraph of this article, it is crucial for you to choose the right waterproofing method for your next project.
