The Client, a senior corporate lawyer, had instructed that a plot of land near the family home be developed into a multi-unit residence that could accommodate extended family members in their old age, and an art gallery for her private collection, which could be opened occasionally for viewing. Consideration for natural ventilation and access for the elderly.
Following the prevalent building typology in the neighbourhood, the design adapted an urban terrace format with 3-storey annexes to the front and rear of the site, separated by a generous open-aired courtyard, and a service core with lift and
stairs along one side. The front annex was elevated for an open span ground floor space that allowed natural ventilation to penetrate the central courtyard and create a cooling tower effect. It also expanded the effective exhibition area to the art gallery located to the rear.
The design form adopted a contemporary exposed concrete and glass structure which accented the artwork and selected furniture throughout.
