The site is situated on Lot 902-4 Jalan Tun Ismail Kuala Lumpur. The existing ASM office, of colonial design facade, is located adjacent at a lower level. The site is currently occupied by secondary forest and is steeply sloped from the lower southern part to the higher northern peak.
The surrounding area is mix of residential, offices and public buildings. The Akedemi Seni Budaya dan Warisan building is located to the east, a six storey children care centre building under construction is located to the north of the existing ASM building and a private residential dweilling is located to the north of the site.
Access is currently via Jalan Tun Ismail towards the existing ASM building which is lined with very tall mature trees. The main approach road is either from Jalan Parlimen near Lake Gardens to the south or Jalan Sultan Salahuddin to north, which has two approaches, one being the road passing through the JKR headquarters and the other using Jalan Berjasa connecting to Jalan Mahameru.
Jalan Tun Ismail via Jalan Parlimen is a narrow and winding one way street and is not suitable for heavy traffic while the Jalan Mahameru access is two way and can cater for heavy traffic.
There is also an access road to the residential dwelling which skims the north high part of the site and suitable for light traffic.
