HOUSE AT SERANGOON GARDENS
All areas of our lives are being upgraded and this was the basic demand of this quaint single storey, semi-detached abode.. So we said “why not!” What awaited us was a series of changes that enriched our experiences and the final outcome earned us a big Thumbs Up!
On First Thought…
Initially, the owners of this house approached us with the intention to transform this single-storey, segmented house into a two-storey complete dream home. Though this appeared to be a smooth request, we knew it would require certain expertise. The tonality of this extension project began on a conservatory note. In other words, our clients expressed the need to retain the original front half of the bottom floor and apply all restructuring to only the back of the structure. The other requirement was moving the master bedroom to the new second floor to sprawl all over it, giving the room the wide space that they desired.
While the original sections of this house had all the elements of old world charm, our new age extensions were modern and sleek. Hence, the challenge here lay in cleverly fusing the old and the new in a way that would appeal to all.
The next set of instructions pushed our team to innovate even further. An attic was to be added, along with an enlargement of the second story foundation. Now this involved restructuring an entire side wing. Taking inspiration from the original triangular roof shape, we constructed the now two extra storeys with triangle shaped tops. All we had left to do then was build these two floors with the front part still intact and Voilà! We would be done! But that was not to be…
On Second Thought…!
The owners then told us to scrap the original idea entirely, regarding retaining the old section, and to build the entire house of two storeys plus an attic in a modernised fashion! So here’s what we did….
The existing tiled hipped roof in the front section was quickly replaced with a steel and glass box raising the ceiling of the living room to six metres high. So glad we could do that! All other elements too fell into place perfectly, leaving us with an ultra-modern, three storey home with a grand living room, spacious main bedroom on the second floor and a sleek attic on the third.
The owners are definitely pleased but above all, we are grateful for this experience.
