APARTMENT AT GRANGE ROAD
This case is the best example of how your outer environment can influence your inner spaces and vice versa!
A beautifully located 1700 square foot apartment at Grange Road needed to feel expansive while allowing the gorgeous panoramic city view to be seen by all within its four walls.
So the first thing we did was remove all barriers and inner dividing walls to give the illusion of vastness. Big sliding windows served as urban paintings that displayed the scenic city line.
Next, the kitchen and dining hall were merged into one common gastronomical area that catapulted the kitchen into a position of focus for the entire apartment. Home is where the best food is, right? So this served as a warm central point to develop the remaining sections. We even allowed this area to flow softly into the living room, making all public places combine seamlessly.
Then a strong axis lead to a corridor that connected to the bedrooms, creating privacy for these rooms as should be.
In an attempt to increase height, we ripped out the ceiling to expose some of the reinforced concrete beams within. This brought back original structure (which is always better than any alteration) while adding top space to some of the areas.
Adding these finer points offered us the freedom to utilise a range of materials, some of which could even dare to be on the darker side. These included stony grey tiles, warm wooden kitchen cabinets, and sleek aluminium coloured paint for the kitchen and dining wall panels.
The result was a more spacious, modern apartment that proudly showed off its surroundings!
Hence, it was the ample space of the external environment that triggered the owners of this flat to open up their own minds and living conditions. An inspiring story for us all.
