TYLin provided civil, structural, mechanical, and electrical engineering design services for the upgrade and preservation of Singapore’s famous Victoria Theatre and Concert Hall.
Established in 1862 and located in the heart of the Empress Place Civic District, the Victoria Theatre and Concert Hall are among Singapore’s leading venues for the performing arts.
The extensive restoration work included:
Excavation and construction of two basement levels within the conserved theatre façade walls, which had been built on shallow brick pedestals.
Underpinning part of the theatre façade wall to enable the underground structures to extend beneath the neighboring Old Parliament Lane and Atrium area.
Reinforcement of the old foundations to modernize the Victoria Theatre and Concert Hall for world-class performances.
Removal of four pairs of existing columns in the Concert Hall and the addition of two pairs of steel columns that are concealed in the conserved load bearing walls, to provide a column-free foyer space.
Suspension of the additional loads of the new spiral staircase and platform, located just above the foyer, and the circular seating structure from steel trusses by the hangers.
