The foundations of yhsA were established in 2001 under the sole proprietorship of Yap Hock Seong Architect. Since then we have grown into a medium-sized practice with five directors and sixteen employees. At yhsA, we approach design in a holistic manner, collaborating with key movers and stakeholders in the early stages of each project. Our design innovations are aimed at enhancing and uplifting human living. This is achieved through thorough understanding of the context and the users’ needs. We also strive to optimize both the functions and aesthetics within the same building, a process which we apply rigorously from concept to detail design. We have considerable experience in high-density residential projects, and have also enjoyed designing commercial and institutional buildings. We also provide master planning services, especially for high-density developments as well as projects located on steep terrain. Key People Our founding directors, Yap Hock Seong and Tee Chee Heong, returned to Malaysia in the 90's after working in Sydney and London respectively. They collaborate on every project to ensure continuity and consistency in our work. Projects have benefitted from capitalizing on the differing and complementing strengths of both directors. In line with our future expansion plans, we have 3 new Directors, Chester Chen, Loh Chi Kong and Lin Sooi Thing; who have been in our employment for over 12 to 16 years. All 5 Directors are actively hands-on in our projects with the support of 20 other colleagues consisting almost entirely of Professional and Graduate (Pt. II and III) Architects. We pride ourselves in being a well-managed and cohesive team that strives for high levels of professionalism and in a casual and friendly studio environment.
