Modern, Bold and Timeless: Presenting the Balmain House by Bokor Architecture & Interiors
Unashamedly modern, bold and timeless is the Balmain House in New South Wales- designed by Bokor Architecture and Interiors. The heritage listed Victorian workers terrace received renovations to accommodate for a growing family. Following the arrival of their first child, the clients required a home that was capable of moulding to their changing lifestyle.

The plan created by Bokor saw the single storey ramshackle kitchen and bathroom wing demolished and replaced with a 2 storey addition utilizing the original 2 storey fabric of the building that was otherwise being preserved.

The dynamic new extension deliberately did not emulate the cellular masonry construction. Instead, the extension integrates the interior with the outside courtyard providing the opportunity for outdoor bathing- an added fun interaction for the children.

The expansive views offered from the first floor were capitalized with large screened openings with canopies installed above, introducing light and ventilation in all weather conditions. The design purposefully shows striking differences amongst the old and new aspects of the home with detail and materials selection limiting future maintenance and expense.
The team at Bokor placed deliberate emphasis on the vertical, creating a visual separation from the surrounding neighbours. The varied interpretations of contemporary design demand a margin to the façade to avoid the clash of elements.
