The Requirement

To make the redevelopment of St Ives Skate Park an enjoyable and inviting space for both locals and visitors by adding comfortable seating and effective waste management solutions. This project aims to create a cleaner, more pleasant environment that complements the natural beauty and vibrant lifestyle of the Ku-ring-gai community in Sydney's North Shore.

The Challenges

Environmental Impact: It was important to ensure that the park upgrade had minimal impact on the surrounding natural beauty of St Ives Park.

Material Selection: It was important to choose materials for the seats that could withstand weather conditions, daily wear and tear, and potential vandalism, while remaining low-maintenance and environmentally friendly.

Aesthetics and Design: It was important to balance functionality with visual appeal to create an inviting and attractive outdoor space that blends well with the surrounding environment.

The Solution

After evaluating the challenges and requirements, the council selected the Athens Stainless Steel Bins with sloping covers and the Madrid DDA Seat with Woodgrain Aluminium Slats, Polished Aluminium Armrests & Straight Base Plate to improve the amenity for children and parents of St Ives Park.

These products offered the following advantages:

Durable Materials: The Madrid DDA Seats feature woodgrain aluminium slats and polished aluminium armrests, offering a strong, low-maintenance, and visually appealing solution. The Athens Wheelie Bin Enclosures are made from 100% stainless steel, ensuring durability and resistance to weather conditions.

Efficient Use of Space: The Madrid DDA Seats and Athens Wheelie Bin Enclosures come in various sizes and design options, allowing for customization of the park layout based on available space.

Low Maintenance: The wood grain aluminium slats used in the Madrid DDA Seats are scratch-resistant, easy to clean, and don't require polishing or painting. The Athens Wheelie Bin Enclosures' stainless steel construction ensures low maintenance and resistance to wear and tear.

Eco-friendly: The aluminium slats used in the Madrid DDA Seats are 100% recyclable, with excellent resistance to UV radiation and extreme weather, making them suitable for outdoor use.

Customisation Options: Customisation options for the Madrid DDA Seats include various slat types, lengths, and finishes, while the Athens Wheelie Bin Enclosures offer the possibility of adding laser-cut patterns and logos, ensuring a perfect fit for the specific park requirements. The council decided it would have the legs of their Madrid seats and the front door of the Athens Bin Enclosure powder-coated Vivica Charcoal Metallic colour for added uniqueness.

By selecting the Madrid DDA Seats and Athens Wheelie Bin Enclosures, Ku-Ring-Gai Council achieved its objective to create a cleaner, more pleasant environment that complements the natural beauty and vibrant lifestyle of the Ku-ring-gai community

What the client said

“This latest park upgrade really is a great move forward for the residents and visitors of St Ives! The Madrid seats provide ample space for parents to sit and watch their kids. We also like the bin enclosures because they help keep the area clean without the eyesore of stand-alone wheelie bins sitting around the park!”
