Selecting Lighting Fixtures for Dark Decor Homes
Dark décor and interiors can be bold, dramatic and seductive- however, without the correct lighting features have the potential to fall flat. The lighting for the Papamoa Beach House (Taurange, New Zealand) designed by Herbst Architects played an integral role in creating a refined aesthetic and ambience within the home.

By following the brief for functional and subtle lighting features, Chippendale based lighting firm INLITE delivered a series of fittings that are adjustable, recessed and trimless. Modern fixtures were selected to seamlessly match the interior décor and overall home aesthetic. Finished in black, the lighting complements the dark tones with some featuring a pop of gold to add an element of luxe to the interior of the home.
Setting the tone with the perfect warmth...
Selecting the correct shade of light emitted plays an integral role in setting the tone within a room. Colour temperature is measured in Kelvin (K) and ranges from 1000K to 7000K. The lower end of the scale representing a warm, orange tone and the higher end symbolising a slightly cooler blue tone. To accompany the darkened and earthy interior of the Papmoa Beach House, INLITE suggested the use of a colour temperature of 2700K to create a warm flow throughout the home while drawing attention to the natural details of the wooden finishes.
INLITE products featured in the Papamoa Beach House:
Within the front entrance to the home INLITE installed the Delta Ultra X Down-Up Wall Light in matte black to guide the entrance into the home.
