About Büro Ole Scheeren
Ole Scheeren is an international architecture firm specializing in architecture, interior design, urban development consultancy, research and project management. With offices in Hong Kong, Beijing, Bangkok, New York, London and Berlin, Ole Scheeren designs and realizes groundbreaking architectural and urban development projects around the world. To date, Ole Scheeren has completed projects with a total area of more than one million square meters and has won many awards, including the 2015 World Architecture Festival Building of the Year Award for The Interlace in Singapore, the 2014 Council on Tall Buildings Best Residential Award, the 2013 Council on Tall Buildings Best Tall Building Award for CCTV Headquarters, and the 2018 Council on Tall Buildings Excellence Award for DUO and MahaNakhon. Our designs are conceived from new prototypes, incorporating new concepts and clearly bringing out how the spaces we live and work can be reimagined. We believe that architecture is an interconnected social infrastructure and build future scenarios from it. From large-scale structures that change cities to private spaces, our work reflects the precise pursuit of realizing specific or unexpected solutions for people and urban life. The firm's completed projects include: Guardian Art Center, which is adjacent to the Forbidden City and is the headquarters and new exhibition space of China's first art auction house; Mahanakhon in Bangkok, Thailand, a symbol that subverts the traditional image of skyscrapers and symbolizes Bangkok's transformation into an international metropolis; DUO, a large-scale integrated project in Singapore, which actively uses urban space to create a new urban core. Other projects under construction include: Fifteen Fifteen by Ole Scheeren, a sculptural apartment building that looks like a lighthouse in downtown Vancouver; Riverpark Tower, a high-rise residential building that transforms an existing office building into an expressive high-rise in Frankfurt, Germany; Shenzhen's major urban transformation and super-high-rise skyscraper, the new headquarters building of ZTE "Shenzhen Chao"; and Empire City, a landscape and space that coexists with nature in the sky of Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. Position and purpose We like architecture, we believe in reality, but we pursue possibilities. We imagine alternatives, we ponder existing conditions, we explore meaning. Architecture is a place for us to live, a social structure, and a space for human life. Beauty comes not only from simplicity but also from sculpture, and it contains both nothingness and eternity. We care about how architecture creates memories and how it writes stories. We are happy to tell stories, letting the stories diverge and unfold in the space we create . Design is just a tool, a tool we use for architecture, but it is by no means the entire meaning or content of our work. Architecture is a link that connects residents, creators, culture and nature, technology and materials, psychology and experience. The complexity of architecture inspires us because of its beauty and freedom, its subversive nature, and its indefinability . However, we also value intellectual clarity, sound principles and logic, and fully judge and consider its major issues. We are professionals, but we question our assumptions. We will not simply cater to people's preferences, but we will try to cater to people's needs. We not only observe and analyze, but we also practice. We try to adjust our own position while changing the environment . Architecture is about responsibility. We must devote ourselves to reality and fantasy, and to the myriad requirements and processes . We have both European style and Asian characteristics. Our thoughts and experiences are a full integration of different cultures and backgrounds . We are willing to accept new things and strive to connect our own positioning with the complex real world . We are good at exploring strategies rather than simply implementing set methods and measures. We believe that knowledge and innovation are equally important. We believe in intuition and believe that the great importance of intuition can play a role in our business.
