This yearâs EuroCucina show in Milan provided much food for thought. With some refreshing takes on colour, texture and shadow, European designers seem to be moving on from the monochromatic look. Thereâs also a new focus on accessories and ornamentation to create more individualistic designs.
From a storage perspective, the big news is movement. Drawers and cabinetry are migrating from the kitchen to other living areas, while the introduction of pocket door systems like REVEGO is a game-changer when you want to create multifunctional spaces.
Here are some of the trends in more detail:
The art of mixing and matching.
As handleless designs and concealed mechanisms move into the mainstream, companies are experimenting with contrasting textures, light and shade to create visual interest. Shadows play a big part in adding layers of depth through design while metallic elements, such as brass, provide elegant accents. Surfaces become a playground for design creativity.
Wooden drawers and runners, such as the MOVENTO runner system, are coming to the forefront, with quality workmanship taking a starring role. Organic design objects, avant-garde pieces, patterned fabrics and seating that taps into styles from bygone decades are all on-trend.
Colour makes a comeback.
Beige is losing its dominance as a fresh palette of colours emerges. In 2024, a modern living space isn't complete without the inclusion of sandy, earthy hues.
Keep an eye open for earthy, natural tones such as salmon pink and oche. Consider pairing them with dark furniture fittings, such as onyx black CLIP top BLUMOTION hinges or carbon black LEGRABOX drawers.
Making the most of movement.
No longer content with boring box-like rooms, European clients â like their New Zealand counterparts â are asking for multifunctional spaces that serve a range of purposes. In this respect, the REVEGO pocket system has enabled innovative designs.
A purely mechanical solution, with no need for motors or wiring, REVEGO allows designers to specify large-scale sliding doors that easily glide into the concealed pocket to close off a kitchen or home office from the living or entertaining space.
EuroCucina 2024 also showcased storage within areas outside the kitchen. Bathrooms, wardrobes and other areas of the home and office can now be equipped with discreet drawers and attractive cabinetry that takes full advantage of Blum motion technologies for user-friendly access and a sophisticated appearance.
The 361,000 visitors to EuroCucina 2024 left with plenty of inspiration and information. On the opposite side of the world, New Zealand architects and clients can also benefit from these trends.
