The Hub Hornby underwent a major redevelopment running from 2012 to 2017. Designed by Christchurch based Architects, The Buchan Group, and lead by Leighs Construction, this $75 multi stage expansion provided the community with the redevelopment of 40 retail shop units and food outlets. As the name suggests, the expansion turned the shopping mall into a real community hub with public amenities including a food court and gathering space, public facilities, increased car parking and the bus interchange.
Since its redevelopment The Hub Hornby has been the recipient of the Retail Property Award ‘Excellence & Best in Category in 2018, and a silver award in the New Zealand Commercial Project Awards 2016.
Equus Industries was happy to be involved with this redevelopment with the inclusion of our Matacryl Carpark Membrane. The waterproofing system, which provides a membrane finish with extreme durability, high impact and puncture resistance, and flexible crack-bridging abilities, was applied to the upper-level carparks between 2014 and 2016.
This system was a great choice for The Hub Hornby as the centre remained open during the entirety of the redevelopment. The membrane is designed for easy application with a rapid curing time, allowing for minimal disruption to the site and businesses below. With an easy maintenance plan this membrane will service The Hub Hornby for many years.
