Flooring plays a significant role when it comes to designing and creating atmosphere within large commercial spaces. Low maintenance and hard wearing options are essential to withstand the demands of heavy foot traffic. Colour, pattern and design are also factors influencing decision-making from both a visual and practical perspective. Here are our top tips for choosing the right carpet for public spaces.
Unlike at home, public spaces deal with heavy volume foot traffic, and certainly don’t have a shoes-off rule! Clever use of colour and pattern can offer more than just a visual aesthetic and instead become a feature of practicality. Darker colour palettes or detailed patterns are great as they tend to hide the dirt and spills from the day and are easily refreshed overnight.
Patterned carpets can really lift an interior by providing visual interest or evoking a mood.
Patterns and installations can also meet different objectives in a space. Directing foot traffic with wayfinding features like arrows or strips of colour built into the carpet design is a great practical feature. Or to evoke a feeling of luxury and a relaxed mood in a high-end space, subtle layers of intricate pattern and texture can be incorporated.
To protect the investment of flooring, choose a carpet with a commercial heavy-duty or extra heavy-duty rating that’s been independently tested for wear and durability by the Carpet Institute of Australia.
Large public and open plan spaces, such as stadiums, receive lot of wear and tear through high volume foot traffic, spills and other damage. Carpet tiles and planks work well and if need be, individual tiles can be quickly pulled up and replaced without pulling up the entire floor area.
Our carpet is available in 2m wide sheet or 3.66m and 4m broadloom rolls. This wider format can offer a beautiful aesthetic with fewer joins or seams, working well for larger scale patterns. Our custom carpets, including our woven and Designer Jet® carpet, offer easy installation coupled with limitless creativity for commercial interiors.
From often hundreds to sometimes thousands of people gathered in an indoor space at restaurants, conferences or events, noise can be an issue. Carpet is a great flooring option for these noisy, high-traffic spaces as it helps insulate noise and absorb sound. For added comfort and noise absorption, select from our cushion backing options.
Our Enviro Bac® backing for carpet tiles and Quick Comfort™ for broadloom and 2m wide sheet feature excellent noise absorption properties for all public spaces.
With the fire safety of commercial products a hot topic, you can rest assured that all our commercial carpet ranges are independently fire tested to the Australian Standard (AS 9239) and meet or exceed the minimum requirements outlined in the Building Code of Australia (BCC). Check out our product specification sheets or request a copy of the test reports to see the results for yourself.
Choosing the right floor covering for your public or open space project can be overwhelming. Take the time to consider the factors of scope, size and budget, then let our tips and images inspire you with what’s possible.
