For the first year Godfrey Hirst Carpets have partnered with RMIT University, offering an opportunity for students to do an internship in our design studio.
The RMIT Textile Design students were given the task to develop a collection of carpet designs to suit various areas of a hotel – a ballroom, pre-function space, corridor and guestroom. The designs were to be based off their architect of choice; with students choosing from six architects work to inspire their overall collection.
Students were also able to choose what type of carpet they were designing for, either 3.66 metre wide Axminster carpet or 2 metre wide Designer Jet carpet®, they had a broader colour palette consisting of 20 colours.
Students had 6-8 weeks to complete the task, during this time they had a briefing, a site visit to Godfrey Hirst, concept board presentation, design progress and resolution meetings and final hand in of the design collections.
This program offered a multitude of prizes:
The students put forward an abundance of creative and inspired designs, making the judges job very difficult. A presentation was held on the 7th of August 2019 at the RMIT Brunswick campus to announce the winners of this Giants of Architecture program.
We congratulate the following winners:
- Belinda Farinaccia, inspired by Antoni Gaudi
- Eve Maxwell- inspired by Zaha Hadid
With such a fantastic collection of designs from all students, we expect all will have a bright future within the textile industry and we look forward to having our interns join our team!
