Completed in 2022, the Clyde Road Berwick project is part of the Victorian Government’s Level Crossing Removal Project, which is planned to remove 110 dangerous and congested level crossings across Melbourne by 2030.
The Clyde Road Level Crossing and boom-gate, located on the Pakenham rail line, was removed, and replaced with a rail bridge and road underpass. This has drastically improved safety for road users, pedestrians, and cyclists, as well as reducing congestion and improving travel times for trains and motorists.
Moddex was engaged by Fulton Hogan – Metropolitan Roads Program Alliance (MRPA), for the supply and installation of 340 meters of Bikesafe® – Bikeway Barriers (BS40) as a complaint aspect of the shared pathway for pedestrians and cyclists; as well as Assistrail® – Disability Handrails (AR40, AR20) at sections of the footpath that required compliance with AS1428, DDA and NZS 4121:2001.
Prior to the project, around 22,000 vehicles travel through the Clyde Road, the recent Clyde Road Level Crossing Removal, removes the old traffic generating boom gates which used to be down for up to a third of the morning peak.
We know compliance is non-negotiable and that specification plays a critical role in shaping construction outcomes. That’s why we do everything we can to support you in confident decision making. From the early beginnings such as comprehensive plan mark-ups to site measures and model sharing – we establish a framework of compliance from the get-go. Transitioning to the creation of design intent drawings from multiple perspectives and precise dimensions, this provides another opportunity for us and our client to identify any potential compliance issues.
Designed to adhere to the guidelines set by the Austroads Guide to Road Design, the Bikesafe® – Bikeway Barriers ensure that infrastructure projects always meet the highest safety standards. Whether it’s a steep drop near a path, a bridge, or a culvert, the Bikesafe® – Bikeway Barriers provide the necessary protection, ensuring that cyclists and pedestrians are safeguarded. Moreover, the ability to customize these barriers with Connectabal® and Assistrail® not only enhances their functionality but also ensures they align seamlessly with both Australian and New Zealand Standards.
As part of this ongoing effort, we have developed our exclusive Bridgerail™ Barrier System, which complies with the latest bridge construction regulations in Australia and New Zealand, including AS5100.2 Clause 12.5 and the NZTA Bridge Manual Clause B6.4.
Fulton Hogan – Metropolitan Roads Program Alliance (MRPA) chose Moddex for our proven ability to partner with companies overseeing large infrastructure construction and roadworks.
Moddex’s positive reputation spans nationwide. Not only are our modular barrier systems easily adaptable to fit the demands of the project, but our clients tell us that they come back time and again because we are agile and innovative, with the ability to customize.
