Permacolour Metallic Epoxy Coatings are an advanced self-levelling, self-smoothing, high gloss, low viscosity, crystal clear epoxy coating. A Metallic Epoxy floor Coating exhibits exceptional resistance to chemicals and solvents.
Here we give you a rundown on Metallic Epoxy
Metallic epoxy is a low yellowing, self-levelling. Epoxy. Metallic powder pigments are mixed into the epoxy resin and then poured onto the floor or substrate.
When these pigments become agitated with a paintbrush or roller, they gather, separate, twist and turn to reflect light at different angles.
The epoxy then hardens and the metallic pigments are locked into place, providing a three dimensional, swirly look.
The installation technique is what determines the final look of the floor and is a critical part in attaining the desired look. Because of the self-levelling and flowing nature of the epoxy, each application is truly unique and no application will ever match another. You cannot duplicate a metallic epoxy coating. Each application is original and has its own peculiarities in design and patterns. It can be difficult to predict the final look of your floor. All we can say is that it will have its own unique beauty.
Metallic Epoxy coatings are ideal for renovations. It can be applied to a clean, flat concrete surface as well as to fibre cement substrates (this will require some additional prep). In the case of new builds, concrete should be at least 28 days old prior to the application. Metallic epoxy is ideal for use in showrooms, caféâs, waiting rooms, restaurants, galleries, retail stores, offices and for private residences.
Metallic Epoxy is not considered a DIY application. Permacolour recommends the use of a trained Contractor due to the skills, knowledge and equipment required to achieve a desirable finish. A unique finish is achieved (this is not a factory produced product, but rather âhand madeâ in that each applicator has his or her own technique).
Metallic Epoxy is intended for internal use only. It can be applied to floors, seating areas, and benchtops.
Once the Metallic Epoxy has been applied, it is overcoated with Permacolourâs clear WB urethane for added protection. This WB Urethane is available in a gloss and matte finish (the two can be mixed to achieve a semi-gloss finish). A Gloss WB urethane is the ideal finish to choose in order to achieve the depth and 3D effect of Metallic epoxy, whilst a matte finish reduces that effect somewhat. A slip additive can also be added to the WB Urethane for added slip resistance where required.
The success of Metallic Epoxy is determined by the quality of the substrate to which it is applied. For more information, refer to Permacolourâs Metallic Epoxy Data Sheet
Surfaces coated with Metallic epoxy are easy to clean and maintain. Simply sweep and mop.
Metallic Epoxy is available in a range of colours. Colours can be mixed or several colours can be used to create an interesting effect. The finished look is mottled in appearance and not uniform. For final colour selection, we recommend a sample be applied for approval. Colours shown on our colour cards (both printed and digital) are to be used as a guide only as there are several factors affecting the appearance of the finished colour.
