Located in the heart of Ringwood, 1 Nelson Street boasts 110 residential apartments across two separate yet connected buildings with a common ground floor, double height entrance foyer and two-level basement car park.
A boulevard dividing the building into two was created with the intent of softening the development’s bulk and appearance, thus reducing the building mass and simultaneously transforming the structure into an attractive view that enhances the neighbourhood’s character.
Skilful design reveals the building form and surrounding landscaping harmoniously complementing each other. Feng Shui elements of water and fire were integral components of the brief resulting in a calming waterfall-effect water feature at the entry, and an elegant but imposing free standing fireplace in the lobby. The built form objective was to establish a good
balance between achieving a favourable yield, whilst respecting and embracing the project’s broader context.
The formal entry lobby is the most important encounter point. It forms the first impression about the quality and style of the development. The lobby was conceived as a grand space, rich in colours and textures, revealed progressively to the eye. Looking to emulate the opulence and comfort of a hotel, it features elevated ceilings highlighted by oversized two-tier
bespoke pendant lights, and inset carpet featuring a luxe zig zag pattern that reflects the herringbone wall treatment of the foyer’s backdrop.
The experience is that of a dynamic and welcoming space executed to a high standard and characterised by quality and timeless elegance. It is a space that is intended to instil pride in the owners and impress the users, and serves as a preview to the overall quality of the development.
The continuity of the finishes showcased in the lobby flow through to the corridors and surrounds, where the colour paletteand carpet are duplicated in a different layout. Custom laser cut light fittings at the front of each residence serve the dual purpose of illuminated apartment numbers emanating a hotel vibe, as well as creating soft lighting lining the corridors. All building signage appropriately matches the gold finish in the pendant lights and speak the same graphic language to complement the interior fit out.
Other finishes within the residences include high quality timber oak floorboards, stone benchtops, stone look porcelain tiles, laminated joinery and carpet in the bedrooms. The use of a champagne metallic finish offers a hint of glamour with a luxurious accent that highlights and flows through the kitchen. The timber look laminate complements the champagne finish
providing warmth and balance. Creating these distinct focal points provides a break in the rhythm, yet still maintains a
coherent visual appeal. Purchasers were presented with a choice between two different sophisticated colour schemes incorporating cool and warm themes.
On the building’s exterior the incorporation of composite metallic cladding, timber look cladding, render in mixed hues and obscure glass provides a modern, inner city feel. The building is predominantly concrete precast and built of light weight structure. The metallic copper cladding is the building’s signature feature.
