The stunning facility has been co-designed with patients and has a range of unique features which have set a new standard in patient centred care.
The Bone Marrow Transplant Unit at Auckland City Hospital provides expanded capacity for the Haematology and Blood Service with a new 30-bed inpatient ward.
The majority of the ward has single bed rooms, all of which are capable of transplant procedures, and the entire unit is positive pressure creating a best practice environment for these patients who are often immuno-compromised and need protection from 'outside bugs'.
The long stay nature of these patients and family/whanau requirements have been supported in the design with a wellness/therapy room for education and rehabilitation, and family support zones with a dedicated whanau lounge and kitchen area. Vibrant supergraphics in coastal, bush and alpine themes enhance the surroundings.
Ward support includes two distributed nurse and support zones for staff efficiency, a reception, and procedure and meeting rooms supporting the wider Haematology and Blood Service and after hours outpatient consultations.
