We undertook a full site redevelopment of the Coolum Beach Hotel, which included an indoor bistro and bar, outdoor beer garden and bar, gaming area, cafe kiosk (to be used by the local community), kids area, bottle shop and car park.
The complexity of the project and configuration of site demanded a multi-stage process, to maintain trade during the gradual demolition of the existing building.
The close proximity to residential zoning meant that stakeholder engagement and negotiations were crucial to the application and planning process. Likewise, special consideration of acoustic treatments was paramount, to limit impact on the surrounding neighbours.
Spatial planning was crucial to provide a public access link through the middle of the site, to allow access from the beach to the retail precinct (either side of the site), and to maximise the retention of existing landscaping, including significant, established Pandanus trees.
The integration of public art and a community-used kiosk in the development has further revived the precinct and enhanced its family-friendly appeal
