After the pandemic, Jakarta sees the rise of outdoor public space. Taman Literasi Martha Tiahahu is one of the places that emerged as an oasis to Jakartans, a new place to dine in and also serve as a public library in the middle of the city. Our newly completed project Pasta by the Park is located inside this park, offering an al fresco dining experience for the park’s visitors. When we first check the bare existing area, we love their unusually curved plan. The indoor is protected from the outdoors by floor to ceiling glass. We also notice a round skylight that adds more connection to the outdoors. In our design, we amplify these existing feature by designing an organic kitchen bar and dine in seating that curves around an olive tree. This olive tree can be experienced differently when entering, ordering and dining in depending on where the customer stand. To represent the brand concepts of “casual” and “authentic”, we sought to work with a warm yet restricted color palette and forms that are not rigid. We use clean, simple lines that make the overall design feel modern, but the material and textures remind us of the old traditional Italian trattoria at the same time.
