This is a gallery for an award winning photographer located at a corner commercial unit at the top (third) floor, which offered a double volume space and abundance of daylight.
We seized the site advantage by introducing a big box (the ‘Box’) at the center of the double volume space with tilted angle to create a dynamism and pocket of spaces, while served as a base for the new mezzanine level.
The key element used is a 100mm x 100mm x 100mm concrete ventilation block. The blocks are transformed to multiple features and usages: front feature wall, reception sculptured counter, wall and screen. This became the design language which is pragmatic and minimalist expression and yet functional, floating between sculpture and utilitarian object.
