Our latest design project involves a personalized and flexible space tailored to the extroverted client's desire for a gathering-friendly home while maintaining privacy in the tightly spaced East Jakarta neighborhood. We tackled the challenge by designing an enclosed facade that provides a sense of privacy, while the indoor areas are open and interconnected.
For the first floor, we addressed the need to connect indoor and outdoor areas while maintaining privacy. We used expanded metal material for the fence, symbolizing the owner's openness and blending with the neighborhood. Strategic placement of openings at the main entrance ensures visual connection without directly exposing the main indoor area.
To address the second floor's direct view of neighbors' balconies, we designed a Twisted Facade that covers the owner's private space. This architectural feature allows visual connections between indoor and outdoor areas without directly facing neighboring houses. It forms a hidden balcony with openings that enhance the visual connection to the first-floor carport. The glass canopy of the carport supports the design's consistency and visual connections throughout the building.
Our design emphasizes open and shared spaces, promoting connection and shared experiences. The central gathering area serves as an inviting space for social interaction, with versatile seating and an open layout. Thoughtful acoustics ensure that the rest of the house remains undisturbed during gatherings, providing a private environment.
The first floor features an open plan design, with the living, kitchen, and dining areas seamlessly connected. The kitchen island becomes a natural gathering spot, encouraging conversations while allowing the client to interact with guests. The placement of the guest bedroom next to the living area provides additional space for visitors or the owner's use.
A central void and skylights optimize the use of limited land, allowing natural light to penetrate deep into the interior and promoting air circulation. Balconies at the front facade offer a connection with nature and serve as green areas.
In summary, our design caters to the extroverted client's desire for a gathering-friendly home, ensuring privacy and tranquility within a densely populated neighborhood. The personalized and flexible space features open and shared areas, a Twisted Facade for privacy, and thoughtful integration of natural light and ventilation. The materials and finishes create a harmonious and inviting atmosphere, promoting a sense of warmth and sophistication.
