Menelusuri salah satu ruas jalan di area tersebut seakan berada dalam mall dengan berbagai etalase yang berusaha menjadi sorotan. Di tengah ramainya berbagai jenis fasad bangunan, Lei Lo Restaurant karya arti design menampilkan fasad sederhana yang didominasi elemen material semen bertekstur.

Di Indonesia, material bata cukup lekat dengan identitas lokal karena penggunaannya yang sudah tercatat sejak zaman kerajaan Majapahit. Dalam perkembangannya, pemanfaatan material bata terlihat cukup dinamis. Terdapat masa ketika bata dipakai sebagai elemen dinding yang dibiarkan terlihat, lalu sempat pula hanya berfungsi mengisi dinding yang kemudian diplester dan dicat yang umum ditemui sampai sekarang. Sampai pada beberapa tahun terakhir, bata kembali menjadi material yang cukup disorot, khususnya bagi perancang yang ingin menunjukkan citra lokal dalam bangunannya. Penggunaan bata dibiarkan diekspos, tanpa plester, dan dirangkai dengan berbagai pola maupun modul sebagai wujud eksplorasi desain terhadap material ini.

Terletak di kota Surabaya, rumah yang berdiri di lahan seluas 190 m2 memiliki fasad bangunan dengan kisi-kisi (louvre) yang disusun vertikal sebagai penanda arsitektur modern. Klien S House ini telah bergelut selama kurang lebih 15 tahun sebagai pengusaha kayu. Hal inilah yang menjadi inspirasi arsitek menjadikan kayu sebagai material utama rumah ini. Penggunaan kayu sebagai bagian dari konsep desain bangunan dapat terlihat pada tampilan bangunan. Trap tangga utama beton cor yang dilapis dengan multipleks, lantai parket kayu pada kamar tidur utama, deck kayu pada lantai teras, foyer dan balkon lantai atas, serta pada hampir semua custom furniturnya.
