SINGAPORE – Elmich’s achievements as a global provider of urban greenery solutions were highlighted by Minister for Social and Family Development and Second Minister for National Development, Mr Desmond Lee, as part of his speech during the launch of the Landscape Sector Transformation Plan (LTSP) at Lakeside Garden last week.
Listing companies that have excelled beyond its shores, Minister Desmond Lee cited Elmich as a prime example of local companies who have leveraged on skills and expertise in their field to compete in the global arena, flying the Singapore flag around the world. The government will support and create more opportunities for landscape companies to grow internationally under this 10-year plan.
The LTSP takes a holistic approach to elevate, grow and invigorate the sector, transforming into a high-tech, high-value, and resource-efficient one. The existing 12,000 strong landscape workforce will be upscaled and a talent pipeline will also be developed in order to keep up with the increasing societal emphasis on eco-friendliness, green spaces and sustainability. Green spaces are expected to grow by 1000 hectares over the next 15 years, and the sector is set to grow up to 30% by 2030.
NParks and associated industry partners and experts will collaborate to improve the sector’s productivity through digitalisation and mechanisation, and enhance professionalism through skills and technological advancement. Curriculum development is also underway to strengthen existing courses in local educational institutes such as the Institute of Technical Education, and to create new educational pathways for aspiring landscape professionals.
