Dark, dreary and depressing is how we describe most underground car parks. But not this one.
This underground car park is welcoming and makes you to leave behind the worries from work the moment you drive in and step out of your car. It invites you to get back to what really matters, your family. It reminds you that other than work, you have other things in life that make you happy.
Where to use Artificial Vertical Greens
When we started the GreenTurf artificial vertical garden series, we envisioned that artificial foliage would help to add a bit of greenery and cheer to places where the sun doesn’t shine. This underground car park is a perfect example of it.
Being so far underground, there’s no way the sun can reach the plants here. It would be too costly to replace plants with a plant maintenance service.
What is Biophilia?
The estate planners understood innately that having greens in the underground car park would serve the residents on a deep level. Human beings have a natural affinity for nature that has been termed “Biophilia”. People are happier when they can see and touch parts of nature and even artificial foliage counts.
I know some of us roll our eyes at that, like there’s no real substitute for nature. And you’re right. But medical research shows that greens, even the artificial ones, help to improve the mental state of people and reduces their stress and anxiety levels.
Densely Populated Urban Areas Need Artificial Vertical Greens
In densely populated urban areas where we see more grey than green, we can no longer scoff at artificial vertical gardens. If we are truly concerned about serving the very people who use the spaces we design, we should incorporate more greens in the spaces. Artificial vertical gardens are merely the way to do so if the conditions for live greens are not ideal.
