The use of resin and cementitious-based flooring systems has become a consolidated practice in the construction field. Resin coatings are typically polyurethane and epoxy based. They are commonly used for industrial flooring for many reasons. Both types of coatings are highly durable and have high compressive strength that are able to withstand heavy loads, depending on the system adopted. Polyurethane coatings are more flexible and therefore more scratch-resistant and able to absorb impact better. Furthermore, it can withstand chemical exposure which makes it ideal for the Food and Beverage industry where floors are exposed to acids. Another alternative is self-levelling cementitious floors. Similar to resin floors, cementitious floors are high in strength and resistant to abrasion. It can be applied on all types of surfaces, horizontal, vertical and ceilings to create a monochromatic effect. Cementitious floors require a transparent or coloured finishing product as final finish for good protection. They are easy to clean and maintain.
