The site for this small 4-unit development is on a bend of a quiet suburban housing estate road in Singapore. To the south, there is a small temple and northeast, 2 houses away, a mosque. It was also below street level, quite an aggressive environment. As commercial development goes, we were fortunate to have an enlighten client that was willing to take a fresh look into the question “what would sell”. Instead of a more of the same mock “Bali look” houses, we persuaded that a modern contextual approach with correct responses to weather, function and cost would be just as viable.
The development was awarded 8th SIA Architectural Design Awards 2006.
