Food and beverage giant Fraser and Neave (F&N)‘s new SGD80 Million Foods facility will house its production, warehousing and research and development to expand its beverage offerings with sustainable packaging solutions. It will also be a smart factory with a state-of-the-art automated storage and retrieval system which supports improved vertical integration and connectivity within the supply chain.
In line with JTC’s vision for a sustainable industrial landscape, this 9-Storey facility targets the Green Mark Gold Plus award by the Building & Construction Authority. The building adopts a typical column grid of 11.4m. The facility is designed to be sustainable, with solar panels and targets such as recovering 30 per cent of its water used and getting at least 10 per cent of its energy from renewable sources.
The structural concept for the building is deploying post-tensioned flat slabs with RC columns and walls as its vertical elements to optimize the design. The building is designed for a various imposed load of 15kPa to 30kPa specifically for the operational requirements. This facility also features a state-of-the-art ASRS cold room with an imposed load of 50kPa and a clear column height of 27m. Jack-in RC pile was adopted based on the soil profiles and to balance safety and cost considerations.
One technical challenge for this project is that there are traces of limestones underlying the site. Additional tests and ground improvements had been adopted to ensure that a safe and robust foundation system can be implemented.
