Founded in Brisbane in 2012, Mott & Mulberry is an independent family business focusing on supporting and promoting the best of Australian artists, designers, and boutique fashion labels. They stock a unique range of quality products and gifts that highlight the talent found throughout the continent. Following the success of their Indooroopilly, Maroochydore, and Brisbane airport stores, they’ve opened their fourth boutique in West End’s West Village, a landmark living heritage village.
A Sekisui House development, West Village is situated on the bustling Boundary St. The site is home to the iconic Peters Ice Cream Factory, the beloved Australian ice cream brand. Sekisui House aims to create the perfect conditions for a community to flourish, with carefully designed corporate, residential, and commercial spaces that give people a chance to connect and get closer to nature.
The developers wanted to honour the site’s rich history, looking to the past to guide the future. They ensured that the overall architecture and design of the West Village reflected the structure of the two heritage building located on the site. The team completed careful restoration of the Peters Ice Cream Factory, and the buildings now house flexible office spaces and retailers, including Mott & Mulberry.
Anchor tenants Woolworths and cult Sydney brand Harris Farm Markets set the tone for the retail precinct, with adjoining shop fronts and stores carrying the same design and architecture to establish visual consistency throughout the mall.
The design intent and focus of Mott & Mulberry West Village was to showcase the minimalistic and chic Mott & Mulberry aesthetic whilst honouring the pre-existing architecture of the site. From a finishes perspective, the palette has been kept neutral, and the materials used are reflective of the architectural timeline of the site. Terracotta bricks, grey rendered walls, concrete, and hardwood give a subtle nod to the industrial heritage yet still feels fresh and sophisticated.
