The Sydney Heritage Fleet is a community based maritime museum founded in 1965 to preserve, restore, maintain and operate significant historic vessels and historic maritime artefacts.
The Fleet needed to find a permanent home for its operations which has both water based and land based components.
The proposed location is at Bank Street Pyrmont, adjacent to the eastern pylon of the Anzac Bridge. Wharfs are to be constructed to berth the Fleet’s vessels. Visitors will be able to participate in harbour tours on historic vessels and also visit the small vessel storage areas and the community based maritime skills centre as well as view the hundreds of smaller exhibits which will be on public display.
The foreshore associated with the development will be open to public access for the first time in nearly 100 years.
