WE ASPIRE TO BE NORTH AMERICA'S RECOGNIZED LEADER IN SUSTAINABLE HABITAT
A BRIEF HISTORY
When George Brown founded the General Roofing Manufacturing Company in 1904, he could not have imagined the explosive growth this country would experience. The company’s name was changed in 1917 to Certain-Teed from its slogan “Quality made certain, Satisfaction Guaranteed.” The company continued to grow as the premier asphalt shingle manufacturer. In the 1960’s, the company acquired both a fiberglass insulation business and PVC pipe businesses which led to the introduction of solid vinyl siding. The addition of both Gypsum and Ceilings in 2007 rounded out the scope of building materials currently manufactured by CertainTeed.
WHO WE ARE:
Through the responsible development of innovative and sustainable building products, CertainTeed has helped shape the building products industry for more than 110 years. Founded in 1904 as General Roofing Manufacturing Company, today, CertainTeed® is North America’s leading brand of exterior and interior building products, including roofing, siding, fence, decking, railing, trim, insulation, gypsum and ceilings. A subsidiary of Saint-Gobain, one of the world’s largest and oldest building products companies, CertainTeed and its affiliates have more than 6,300 employees and more than 60 manufacturing facilities throughout the United States and Canada.
OUR HEADQUARTERS
In October 2015, CertainTeed moved into a new state-of-the-art open floor plan headquarters which showcases 40 products from Saint-Gobain’s family of businesses. This ‘living laboratory’ enables our research team to measure the impact our products have in a real environment. This will enable our innovation of better products and solutions for customers and consumers.
INNOVATION CENTER
Sharing the CertainTeed headquarters site is the Malvern Innovation Center, the research and development hub for CertainTeed Roofing, Insulation and Ceilings. CertainTeed’s leadership in buildings materials is built on innovation and quality and continues to lead the industry in groundbreaking manufacturing and product innovations.
CAREERS
Want to be a part of our growing community? CertainTeed actively seeks new employees who have the skills and expertise to help take our company to new limits. Find how you can fit into our team by viewing our career page.
SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY, COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT AND PHILANTHROPY
CertainTeed and our parent company Saint-Gobain share the belief that ‘we do well by doing good.’ That concept drives our philanthropic decisions both as a company and in how we hope our employees will respond within their communities. Two of our favorite causes are: Homes for Our Troops – an organization that builds mortgage-free homes for severely injured veterans post- 9/11, and YouthBuild USA – a program that encourages low-income youth to unleash their positive energy and intelligence to rebuild their communities and their lives.
A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE
Sustainability has long been a part of our value system and culture. However, it is a journey, and our perspective and actions continue to evolve. Initially, the business drivers were resource conservation (waste, water, energy, raw materials) and quality. CertainTeed takes pride in providing the best products to meet today’s market needs, but we are also looking ahead to offer our customers innovations for tomorrow. Using our definition of sustainable products, CertainTeed focuses on creating value at the triple bottom line for all stakeholders. This means offering high performing, affordable products that enhance users’ comfort and well-being while reducing overall environmental impacts. As part of our pledge to product stewardship, our design teams use life cycle thinking to improve the sustainability of a product beginning with product inception.
