We make our aluminum chairs in Hanover, Pennsylvania. Where we’ve always made them, since 1944. The factory is still on Elm Avenue. And we still build chairs by hand. People stay here a long time. Started as kids. Hire their own kids later on. Each guy has a favorite chair. Maybe the one in a magazine. A movie. Mostly, it’s the one you wrestled for hours. Knowing that the chair will be around long after you are.
Building our chairs takes 77 steps plus a unique Pennsylvania blend of elbow grease and finely tuned craftsmanship that’s been passed down for generations. No one else makes chairs this way. No one else can. It takes a human eye to know when the process is done right, and it takes human hands to get it that way.
Forming, welding, grinding, heat-treating, finishing, anodizing – just a few of the 77 steps it takes to build an Emeco aluminum chair. When we’re done, we have built a chair so strong that we guarantee it for life.
”It’s a completely impractical process for a chair. Unless you want a chair that lasts forever.”
– Gregg Buchbinder, CEO Emeco
