HISTORY
The 40's
When the success story began
The success story began in the fourties. The Traco Power Group was founded in 1944 by Mr. Hans Caspar. The first company was Traco Trading Company Limited. In the 1940s Traco Trading Co. Ltd. was engaged in the import and distribution of cameras, radios and electronic components. These were imported predominantly from Japan, America and Italy and were brought over own representatives into the electrical specialized trade.
The 50's
Dynavox / Revox as a start for internationalization
Around 1946 Hans Caspar imported some of the world's first tape recorders. These were developed by Bush Development as the successor to the BK 40 dictation machine especially for the American market. The success with these devices failed, because they were unsuitable for the Swiss market not only because of their susceptibility to interference, but also because of their conception for 110 volts at 60 Hz. Until 1949 these devices were stored in the cellar of Mr. Caspar, until Mr. Ernst M. Egli established contact to Willi Studer. He was commissioned to convert the Soundmirror tape recorders for the Swiss market. However, Willi Studer decided to produce his own tape recorder and to construct it better from scratch
The 70's
The birth of complex power supplies and DC-DC converters
The Traco Trading Co. Ltd. has exclusively distributed the Dynavox named devices and this gave the company such a success that in the 70s the Traco Electronic Company Limited division was founded for own developments.
Since then, this step has been regarded as a milestone in today's group of companies. Traco Electronic Co. Ltd., also known as TRACO, began to focus on complex power supplies and DC/DC converters and established itself as one of the market leaders in this segment.
The 80's – 2000
International expansion
With Convertec Ltd, today Traco Power Solutions Ltd, in Wexford, Ireland, this focus was strengthened. Traco Power Solutions Ltd. with its approximately 40 employees is managed by Werner Wölfle.
In Germany, Comptek Elektronik GmbH, based in Ismaning, was founded in 1989. In 2000, the company was renamed Traco Electronic GmbH and currently employs around 20 people.
2013
More space
In 2013 Traco Electronic Co. Ltd. moved its headquarters from Zurich to Baar, Canton Zug (Switzerland). In 2016, Rolf Caspar, grandson of the company's founder, handed over the operational management of the Traco Power Group to Markus Dalla Monta (CEO) and Adrian Berger (CFO) after 17 years and has since focused on the role of Chairman of the Board of Directors
2016 - now
Further growth with more international expansion
Traco Power North America, Inc. was also founded in San Jose (USA) in 2016. Two years later (2018) a subsidiary was opened in Paris under the name Traco Power France and more local Traco Power subsidaries are to come.
