Together, We See Further
Vitro Architectural Glass, part of Vitro, North America’s largest glass producer, is exclusively dedicated to glass innovation and fueled by the same people, plants and products that made PPG Glass one of the industry’s most respected and reliable commercial glass manufacturers.
Throughout our storied history, collaboration and innovation have been central to our advancements. Today, the key to our success continues to lie in the strength of our partnerships. With a foundation formed on trust, teamwork and shared excitement, the possibilities for impactful innovations in glass are truly endless.
Building a Brighter, More Sustainable Future
According to a recent study conducted by Dodge Data Analytics, Vitro Glass products are the most commonly specified brand of commercial glass in the industry. Operating under a global company exclusively committed to glass, architects and customers can expect accelerated research and development, in addition to greater capacity.
Throughout our history, we have continually raised the industry standard for sustainability, becoming the first company to achieve Cradle to Cradle™ Certification for our entire collection of architectural glasses. Vitro Glass products also assist architects in achieving LEED® certification for their projects in nine credit categories under LEED v4, the most recent version of the rating system.
Two Legacies, One Great Glass Company
Vitro Architectural Glass’s roots trace back to well over a century ago, when the Pittsburgh Plate Glass Company was founded in 1883 and Vidierra Monterrey began operations in Mexico in 1909. Over 130 years later, our combined legacies continue as one company committed to glass innovation and sustainability.
Our story is defined by continuous advancement to improve how buildings look and perform. From the world’s first “environmental” glass in 1934 to Starphire Ultra-Clear® glass in 1990 to Solarban® 90 solar control low-e glass in 2015, we have consistently raised industry performance standards and registered over 500 patents. In that time, our products have been specified on some of the world’s most recognized and sustainable buildings, including Frank Lloyd Wright's Fallingwater and three of the world’s 11 certified net-zero “living” buildings.
In 2016, Vitro acquired PPG’s flat glass business unit to form Vitro Architectural Glass. Since then, we have accelerated our commitment to sustainable product development. Shortly after joining forces, Vitro quickly earned an R&D 100 award for Solarban® 90 glass and announced a $55 million investment in North America’s largest MSVD jumbo coater, which has been operational at our Wichita Falls, Texas, plant since 2018.
In 2019, our Fresno, California, plant became the first float glass manufacturing plant in the United States to earn the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) ENERGY STAR® certification for superior energy efficiency. Our Fresno plant operates one of eight oxygen-fuel-powered (oxy-fuel) glass furnaces in the world—a proprietary Vitro technology that cuts natural gas consumption by 15 percent.
As we continue to write our new chapter, Vitro Architectural Glass remains loyal to its legacy of innovation, yet focused on the future of glass.
