Dierra Café & Resto Optimises Local Tourism by Highlighting Sulawesi's Local Design & Materials
The project is located in Selayar Island, South Sulawesi. As the location has a high potential to support tourism, Dierra Café & Resto acts to support the tourism chain as a space for the surrounding community.
The café optimises site potential where there are still many dense trees around it so that we can feel the cool breeze on the site. In addition, the design approach is a building that is energy efficient, considering that the commercial building requires optimal operations with effective and efficient maintenance, considering the cost and technical perspective.
The primary function rooms are arranged in an open plan concept for flexible furniture arrangement on the first and second. The space utilises natural air conditioning by optimising the open area on the front and back of the building for natural air and lighting circulation. One of the openings at the back is made to be in an attractive curved shape to frame the trees, giving the impression that the tree is part of the building.
Regarding the potential of local materials around the location, this building applies finishing materials from local craftsmen, including Kanaha wood as accent element of the wall panel, bar area and furniture; and red brick/terracotta artisans for exterior and interior wall coverings.
